Posted by admin as Bikes and Biking
If you're into bicycling, perhaps you've wanted to try the world of "fixed gear" biking, but never found the right bike or parts to do it? Here's a site with a ton of good bike parts, including some special deals on fixed gear bicycles -- Price Point, is the name of the company. Their slogan explains them very well: "Where Price Is the Point."
If you're not familiar with fixed gear bikes: Fixed gear bikes have no chains or derailers, etc. for selecting gears. Instead, as wikipedia explains the setup, "the sprocket is screwed directly on to the hub and there is no freewheel mechanism. A reverse-thread lockring is usually fitted to prevent the sprocket from unscrewing. Whenever the rear wheel is turning, the pedals turn in the same direction. By resisting the rotation of the pedals, a rider can slow the bike to a stop, without the aid of a brake. A fixed gear bicycle can even be ridden in reverse."
You'll note in the Price Point information about the fixed gear bike I've linked to above, they strongly urge you always to have a front brake on any fixed gear bike you're going to be riding on the street. Makes sense, right?
It also makes sense, if you're looking for some great buys on bikes, bike parts, bike accessories, bike clothing, and anything else related to the wonderful world of bicycling -- you won't go wrong if you go to Price Point and take a good look around!
